They weren’t one of those one hundred thousand people with hopeless dreams of making it to the big stage.

When they did, they became part of the one hundred thousand and one people who are trying to find a new dream to chase after, having almost woken up from the present one. Time slips fast, quick, with a sound like the rush of spring water over a riverbed, and like the water, never runs over the same pebble more than once. Like sand in a fist clenched too tight – holding on for dear life is a hopeless endeavor.

Jin finds himself looking for a new dream while trying to prevent his current one from becoming a nightmare. It’s just work, and it earns his keep. In Koki’s case, it feeds many mouths and the dreams of his brothers.

None of them decided to do this because they were scouted talent off the street – they had sought it out willingly and were duly rewarded for their efforts. It would only be wise to make full use of it: milking their popularity by stealing each other’s girlfriends (and sometimes pretending to be each other’s lover, too) was just part and parcel of it.

Only when Jin left and Koki got angry, really angry, did they both realize how important his job was for them. The dream was not yet over, not even close. Jin was only 23, Koki only 22.

Jin comes back, professional, trying hard not to show how hard he was trying. Koki stops weighing his experiences with a tangible scale, besides, they’ve always let him do this thang. The first time they step back into the recording studio together, they remember those days when they were one of those one hundred thousand hopeless dreamers – excitement crackling under their skin and so much energy that they sing their throats raw. Only then do they really feel like they are truly living their dreams.
